Yes, I love raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens (especially Stinky's), bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens (lately for sure), but I also love something I picked up at the pet store today and couldn't wait to share it with you other pet lovers out there.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Stinky was a starving kitten when Honey Bunches brought him to his new abode. Because of this, he seemed to have developed a habit of food scarfing. No, I am not talking about the type of scarfing that goes with those warm woolen mittens. I'm talking about eating so fast that he almost choked every time. Poor little Stinkbug... So, one day a while back when Honey Bunches and I were perusing the PetSmart shelves, we came across another reason why Martha Stewart is rolling in the dough! She has created these ingenious dog bowls with little obstacles that the dog has to maneuver around while eating. It is of course supposed to slow down the animal's eating and help them not to experience bloat, etc. Sounds great huh! We ended up buying the smallest dog bowl for Stinky to try. When we arrived at home, we immediately put it into action. After diving in this bowl at first, Stink froze and looked up at us with eyes that I could swear were filled with tiny tears. He meowed a word I won't repeat here and tried diving in again. Eventually he accepted his fate and started eating more slowly, occasionally scooping out his food piece by piece with his paw to eat the tiny morsels. It has worked wonders for him. He is forced to take his time when he eats now and even leaves some food behind at times. (Note to self, check to see if they make these bowls in adult human size!)
Fast forward to today's shopping trip. Our Big Dog loves to eat just like the other three members of this family and can scarf food with the best of them. I'd be surprised if the food even touches his tongue on its way down. It seems to just catapult from the bowl to his esophagus. Because of Big Dog's eating habits, Honey Bunches and I decided to get Big Dog a cool, obstacle-course, big-dog bowl of his own. Appropriate, don't you think!?
The bowl again worked wonders. Big Dog, without tears or foul language, seemed to acclimate and might have actually tasted his food tonight!
Yes, as Martha says, "It's a good thing," especially if you have scarfers!
